SenterNovem is an agency of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and implements national government policy in a professional, effective and inspiring way by order of the State government. It strives to achieve a strong innovative business community in a safe and supportive, sustainable society and promotes sustainable economic growth by building a bridge between the market and government, at both national and international levels. The main actors in financing research and development activity are the Ministry for Education, Scientific Research and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Important funding agencies are: SenterNovem, KNAW and NWO.
The main financial resources for research and development activity are the state budget and the private sector.
The ministers of the Ministry for Education, Scientific Research and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs have the right to sign intergovernmental co-operation agreements.
